What it is
October is harvest in Prince Edward County. Tasting rooms stay open, but the people who normally pour are out in the rows, and the cellars smell of fruit rather than polish.
A handful of wineries run public picking days: you pick for the morning, then eat. Trail Estate has one on Sunday 4 October 2026, with a harvest feast cooked by Chef Charlotte Langley afterwards. It is RSVP only and the winery has not published a price.
Nobody schedules harvest far ahead, because the fruit decides. If you want to be there for it, watch the wineries' own pages through late September and book the moment a date appears.
Good to know
- Harvest dates are announced late and fill fast. A winery that posts a picking day on the Monday can be full by the Wednesday.
- It is real work in a wet field. Boots, gloves and layers, not tasting-room clothes.
- Even without a picking day booked, October is the quietest good month to taste here. The summer crowds have gone, the leaves are turning, and the people pouring have time to talk.
Fitting it round a tasting day
Harvest weekends overlap Countylicious from 22 October, so a picking morning and a prix-fixe dinner can be the same day.
